TJGT - Bridlewood Holiday Championship

Boys 15 - 18

Bridlewood GC

Weather in Texas continues to be predictably unpredictable.  Round 1 of the TJGT's first tournament of the new year was not supposed to be this cold.  Credit to all the boys and girls (and parents) who bundled up and arrived at Bridlewood for a 9 am shotgun start.  The range didn't open until 8am and that time, the temp was in the upper 30's and the wind gusting into the 20 mph range.  They were only allowed 40 minutes to warm up before being called to the putting green for the mandatory meeting. 10 minutes later they were dismissed to their starting holes and had to stand around and wait another 10 minutes for the horn to sound.  Again - kudos to all the golfers who did their best in the cold and wind.  By the time they finished - the temp had inched into the 50's but the forecast for round 2 didn't look good.  Overnight lows were below freezing and even though the temp was expected to be back to 40 - the wind and windchill would not be above freezing.  TJGT decided Sunday morning that Round 2 would be scrapped.
Kyle had the lowest round in his group and finished 12th overall.

NTPGA All-American Tour Kickoff

Boys 15 - 18

Golf Club of Dallas

Although the weather started out cold - the temperatures warmed up much quicker and there was tons of sunshine both days.  It was good to be back at the Golf Club of Dallas - Kyle had finished T4th last year in this division.  There were plenty of familiar faces but it was good to see some new ones as well.

Winter weather continues to disrupt.  Another ice storm hit the metroplex and Round 1 had to be cancelled.  Although Sunday's forecast included some sun and the temperature to get up to 50 - it didn't happen.  Although the ice was gone, it never got warmer than the mid-40's and we didn't see a hint of sun until we were almost through with the round.  Thankfully it didn't get too windy - but it was rough.  Kyle was able to tie for 6th place and the points put him on the top of the Points Challenge leaderboard.

Lone Star Memorial

Boys 14 - 15

The Tribute Golf Course

What a great way to celebrate Kyle's 14th Birthday.  Kyle had been participating in this annual tournament since it's inception in 2007, but missed last year due to a schedule conflict.  He had won it in 2007 & 2009, with runner-up finishes in 2008 & 2012.  This year it was back at The Tribute GC in The Colony - the site of Kyle's win as a 9yo.  Round 1 was on Saturday, the day before Kyle's birthday and he shot a 73 - one shot off the lead.  Despite the windy conditions - Kyle was hitting every fairway.  The next day - turning 14, he went out and shot the lowest round in his division - 69.  That put him in a tie with Jake Benanti.  It took 4 playoff holes - but Kyle secured the win and an AJGA Performance Star

Texas Oklahoma Junior Golf Championship

Boys 14 - 15

Weeks Park, Wichita Falls CC, & River Creek GC

2014TO.JPG

This was Kyle's 4th visit to Wichita Falls for the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Championship.  This tournament has been around since 1957 and some notable winners include Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, and Scott Verplank.  The first year Kyle entered, he was 11, playing up to the Boys 12-13 division.  He shot a 75, putting him in a tie for 3rd.  However, that year the temperatures were over a hundred and Kyle ended up with food poisoning that evening and had to withdraw.  The next year he struggled on the last round, when unseasonably cold and wet condtions hit on day 3 and he finished 8th.  Then, last year, he was able to put together 3 solid rounds and took home his first TO trophy for his 3rd place finish.
Getting better each year - the kids had sunny skies - no rain - but lots and lots of wind.  After 2 rounds, Kyle was tied for 5th - just 4 shots back from Daniel Seibert and Parker Coody who were tied for 1st.  Kyle was determined to finish higher than last year and he shot the lowest round - a 72, which put him in a tie with Daniel.  They went back out on the course and Kyle lost the 3rd playoff hole to secure the 2nd Place trophy, continuing his upward trend.
